They are Taken Out of the World according to (v.6),“The men which Thou gavest Me out of the world,” The world as such, is in a state of ruined mass, lying in the lap of the evil one; being coddled by the illusions and guided by the false principles of the god of this world;
Thank God, the followers of Jesus Christ have in spirit been lifted up out of the whole thing, as out of an horrible pit and miry clay.
We have been established in the Kingdom of our God which is righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.“Ye arc not of the world, even as I am not of the world,”
A little of the Divine nature was known by the works of creation; a little more was known by the Mosaic revelation: but the full manifestation of God, his nature, and his attributes, came only through the revelation of Christ. The Word was made flesh (Jh.1:14).
The word name here includes the attributes or character of God. Jesus had made known God’s character, his law, his will, his plan of mercy or, in other words, he had revealed God to his disciples.
We were helpless, and our lives and beings were forfeited to Christ.
We was a remnant of fallen mankind that was given to Christ to be redeemed, that might have been made sacrifices to justice when we were pitched upon to be the monuments of mercy; we might justly have been delivered to the tormentors when we were delivered to the Saviour, the apostle Paul stated “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” (Phil.3:18,19).
We are Distinguished from the World. “Ipray for them: I pray not for the world” (v.9). As soon as we become separated in spirit from the world, we come under a new set of laws in the Kingdom of grace.
Those for whom Christ doth not pray are called the world, as all their joys, desires, pursuits, and aims, centre in worldly things. They live after the fashion of the world, and will be condemned with the world.
We are dealt with as children of God, not as the mere offspring of His creative power.
Keeping Christ’s word, holding fast his doctrine, and adorning it by a good conversation, is the substantial evidence of our belonging to him.
The study and delight of our redeemed soul is to exalt the name of Jesus, and to ascribe entirely to him the glory of that rich, full, and free salvation of which he hath made us partakers.
Jesus Christ loves us with a love which is peculiar to His own.
While He has the love of pity for the world, He has the love of pleasure for us. We are the apple of his eye.”for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” (Zech.2:18)
Because we are in heart for Him, He in heart and power is for us, so all things work together for good to them that love Him according to (Rom.8:28).
We are in the World, “But are in the world” (v.11). As to our spirit and purpose, we are out of the world, but as to our bodily presence and influence, we are still in the world.
We are in this world. We will be among wicked men and evil foes. We will be subject to trials and persecutions.
Jesus’ prayer was that our lives would be keep till we have done our work, and keep our comforts on earth, and let us not be broken in upon by the hardships that we meet with, let Christ give us the power to keep up our interest in the world, and let it not sink.
We must be Preserve, defend, sustain in all our trials, and we must be saved from apostasy.
In the world, but not of it, even as Christ was (v.16). In the world, not as a branch in the vine, but as a light in the darkness; not as a member in the body, but as a physician in the hospital
In the world, not as a man of the world, but as a man of God, not as its slave, but as its victor “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isa.41:10).
We are Hated by the World “The world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (v.14). (2.) There was no hatred until He had given them the Word of God. “I have given them Thy Word, and the world hath hated them.”
This God given Word, when received, so revolutionised their minds and hearts that the world did not know them, and so contrary did they become to the world’s ways and expression that they hated them “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.(Ac.4:`3).
The worldly wise and the worldly prudent cannot receive those precious things which God is prepared to reveal unto babes “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Mt.11: 5).
We are Kept from the god of this World, “I pray... that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil one”(v.15).
He does not pray that we should be taken out of this world, but kept from the evil one who rules in it.
Christ has work for us, and we are of use to him, for a time, in the world; till our work be done, Christ’s love will not, and the world’s malice cannot, remove us from hence.
It was better that the disciples should endure trials, and thus spread abroad the knowledge of his name.
It would be easy for God to remove us at once to heaven, but it is better for us to remain, and show the power of God in supporting our soul in the midst of trial
We need not weary to get out of this world so long as we can be made a perpetual miracle and monument of His keeping power in it, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Mt.28:20).
Our beloved gourds may wither, but His promise cannot.
Jesus has sent us into the World to preach his gospel, “even so have I also sent them into the world” (v.18).
Every Spirit-anointed one is sent to preach good tidings (Lk. 4:18). As Christ was sent into the world to seek and save that which was lost, so also are we.
The apostles indeed were not sent for the same end in all things that Christ was sent; who was sent to purchase our salvation, as well as to preach the gospel: but the disciples were sent in part for the same work for which Christ was sent, and they were sent by Christ who had authority to send them.
As He was an ambassador for the kingdom of God, so also are we for Jesus Christ, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, (II.Cor. 5:20).
As the Almighty was in Jesus, so our desires is that Jesus will be in us,“The hope of glory.”
Christ fulfilled, in a perfect manner, all required of Him, but what miserable counterfeits are in the world today.
Christ has given Himself as freely to us as God Himself has in Jesus Christ, that His great love might triumph in us and through us, Paul stated “Christ liveth in me” (Gal 2:20)
