Quickened from death, to life by Christ

Ephesians 2:1,10

You did He quicken when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins” (Eph.2:1). Living or dead, There is no middle state here.

A man is either quickened or he is not. These two states include all.

Christ has received us into his covenant, having taken us out of our sin.

He has quickened us, and raised us up to a life of grace and and obedience.

He has restored us by the power of his Resurrection, from that of being a infidel, he has delivered us from darkness and sinful circumstances of this life.

Many people in this age is dead to God and his holiness, they are alive to this world and fleshly lust. They live in trespasses and sins, and this is spiritual death, (II.Tim.3:4,5) tells us “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power there of: from such turn away.”

We had no power to raise ourselve from sin than the dead man hath to raise himself from his grave, Jesus had to say to Lazarus, “come forth” (Jh.11:43), ye Jesus has worked powerfully in us, and hath freed us from our your sins “And you hath he quickened,”

In our old life we lived in a state of separation, “ye were dead”

Ever dead person has been cut off from the cause and power of life. Only those alive from the dead can realise that they were dead (Lk. 15:24) “ For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”

Death separates a man from the bread and air that is necessary for us to live.

Spiritual death means separation from the sustaining presence of God. Sin is the death of the soul, dead (spiritually), “ But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth.”according to (1.Tim 5:6.) “Alienated from the life of God, (Eph.4:18) “being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them,” (Eph 4:18).

No fitness to enjoy heavenly things.

The original design of God was to live in man; and the life of God in the soul of man was that by which God intended to make man happy, and without which true happiness was never found by any human spirit: (Ps 144:15) “ happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.”

So many people live in a state of insensibility.

They are neither beguiled nor alarmed by anything said or done in their presence. (I.Tim.4: 2) “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;”

They have neither tears nor fears concerning their sins or future state. Neither law nor Gospel moves

them, (Pr 28:14) tells “but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.”

So many people are in a state of helplessness. We never expect anything from the dead. The wicked just gets worse and worse, deeper and deeper in to sin (II.Pe. 2:20) “ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.”

Those dead in sins are without Christ, and so can do nothing by way of imparting divine life into their hearts.

Sin is the death of the soul. Wherever that prevails there is a want of all spiritual life. Sinners are dead in sin being destitute of the principles, and powers of spiritual life; and cut off from God, the fountain of life. “While we were without strength, Christ died for us.”

So many are in a state of absolute incapacity. The dead have nothing in common with the living. Sin is the death of the soul. And a person dead in trespasses and sins has no desire for spiritual pleasures.

Wicked men are slaves to Satan. Satan is the author of that proud, carnal disposition which there is in ungodly men; he rules in the hearts of men. (Lk. 22:3 ) tell us, “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.”

God’s eternal love or good-will toward his creatures, is the fountain whence all his mercies flow to us; and that mercy of God is great and that mercy is rich.

A regenerated sinner becomes a living soul; he lives a life of holiness, being born of God: he lives, being delivered from the guilt of sin, by pardoning and justifying grace.

While we were ye in our sins we were out of communion with God,

Sin always has a killing effect. Death by sin, but gives life, “You have he quickened.” Life is the only remedy for death.

God’s method of saving from sins is quickening, It is the imparting of a new life by the direct energy of the Almighty Spirit of God. “You hath He quickened.” Born from above.“

The gift of God is eternal life (Rom. 6:111 23).

When Lazarus got life he soon got out of the place of the dead.

No one with Christ’s healing touch on them will dwell among the tombs.

When the light of life dawns we arise from the dead and come out from among them.

Death separates from God, life separates from the things of death.

A quickened one is not only restored to life, but to all the joys and responsibilities of the higher state-restored to God

This new life is to be all for God. “Alive unto God.” Quickened together with Christ, that we might show the exceeding riches of His grace in our life.

We are not our own. Our old life was a dead one, “alienated from the life of God.”

This new life is from God, that ye might glorify Him, “Mylife I give Thee.”

Our understanding is naturally blind, the heart so hard, and the will so stubborn, that none but a divine power can enlighten the one, and incline the other: it is a change of stone into flesh, of a dead sinner into a living saint.

A change from nature to grace requires as much or more divine power, than a change from grace to glory.

To see a creature naturally filthy, now to delight in purity; to see a sinner that by nature drinks in iniquity like water, now thirsting after righteousness; to see a man that loathed the holy law and holy ways of God, now longing to walk in them, and to come to an exact conformity to God in them; these acts are above nature, contrary to nature, and consequently the God of grace is the author of them: “You hath he quickened.”
