The gospel of Christ our Lord

Romans 1:16

1 am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (v.16). This was Paul’s bold and fearless testimony. The Gospel Christ preached to him on the way to Damascus revolutionised his whole life, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?.

For the Scripture saith, “Whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed, they shall neither be confounded, nor disappointed of their hope. It was Peter who stated, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Mt.16:16).

The Jews, by not believing on Jesus Christ, by not receiving him as the promised Messiah, but trusting in others, have been disappointed, ashamed, and confounded, from that time to the present day.

On the other hand, those who have believed on Christ have, in and through him, all the blessings of which the prophets spoke; every promise of God being yea and amen through him.

Paul, as a Jew, believed on Christ Jesus; and in believing he had life through his name; through Christ he enjoyed an abundance of grace; so that, being filled with that happiness which an indwelling Christ produces, he could cheerfully say, I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.

Why? Because he felt it to be the power of God to the salvation of his believing soul.

Now he was neither ashamed of Him nor His words. (Mk. 8:38) tell us “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels”

Those who are ashamed of the Gospel are strangers to its power.

Why Paul was not Ashamed of the Gospel of Christ?

There are some gospels that are not of Christ,By their fruits ye shall know them” (Mt.7:16).

The gospels of carnal reasoning and mere human effort cam only lead to shame and confusion.

The apostle declared, “For I am not ashamed.” Paul was aware that the Gospel of Christ would meet with opposition from the vices and prejudices of mankind, sure, some of the gospel doctrines will bear hard upon the false wisdom and pride of many church leaders and others upon the malice and haughtiness of the Jews; the gospel may seem mean and contemptible to many, yet it is attended with such evidences of truth, with such demonstrations of Divine power, wisdom, and goodness towards mankind, We recommend the gospel to all impartial and conceiveing men, as the best and only method of happiness and salvation, both to Jew and Gentile, who will sincerely believe and obey it.

There is Divine compassion. The manifestation of infinite love toward guilty and perishing men–a love stronger than life here on earth.

The Redemption that is in Christ Jesus possesses infinite power, to satisfy all the holy demands of God’s righteous character, and so to cover and cleanse every stain and sin of all who believe. Jesus is the lamb of God that taketh the sins of man according to (Jh.1:29).

We shall have a Glorious resurrection. Not only salvation from sin comes to us through Jesus, but the sure hope of a glorified body-a body like unto his own-incorruptible.

We will find Eternal satisfaction. “I shall be satisfied when I awake in His likeness” (Psa.17:15). The deeper yearnings of the inmost heart shall be fully met when we are made fit for His everlastingfellowship.

God’s love is the greatest of all love. He is better than anything you can put in competition with him; he is better than health, riches, honour.

Other things maintain life, Jesus gives life. Who would put anything in balance with Deity?

God excels all other things more infinitely than the sun itself. God is an eternal light.

He is the Ancient of days, yet never decays, nor waxes old (Da.7:9). (7) The joy he gives is eternal, the crown fadeth not away according, (1.Pet.5:4) “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away”

Our glorified soul shall be ever solacing itself in God, feasting on his love, and sunning itself in the light of his countenance.

We read of the river of pleasure at God’s right hand; but will not this in time be dried up? No. There is a fountain at the bottom which feeds it (Ps 36:9) declares, “With the Lord is a fountain of life.”

Thus God is the chief good, and the enjoyment of God for ever is the highest happiness of which our soul is capable.

What a glorious Gospel this is. It is the power of God unto salvation.

Why was Paul not Ashamed of the gospel. Because it is the power of God. Oh, what a power seems pent up in the Gospel of Christ

There is in it the dynamic force of Almighty love, mercy, and righteousness, a love that melts the heart of stone; mercy, an ocean fulness to cover every sin; righteousness, as pure as light, into which our trusting soul is brought, a threefold cord that is not easily broken according to the Word of God.

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation.

The Gospel of Christ means the great strength of God centered and directed toward the saving of our soul.

It takes the same power to save a soul as to create a world.

Vain is the help of man. Salvation is twofold. The soul is saved from sin and wrath by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Secondly,Our life is saved from fruitlessness and failure by being yielded up to Him.

When a branch has been engrafted into a better stock, it is not only saved from its old life, but possessed and filled and used by the new life. It is a full salvation. Because it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.

Whyis this salvation for believers ? Because it is for the heart. “With the heart man believeth” according to (Rom.10:10).

Sin has smitten man with heart disease, God, in mercy, has provided a heart cure.

If the remedy is to touch the disease it must be received in the heart.“To every onethat believeth. “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters”
