How sad a world it would be if there was no opening for weary, sin-burdened souls in the love of God and his grace. It was Jesus who said in (Mt. 11:28) “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
The work of Christ was the work of an Opener.
Sin had closed the door into every spiritual privilege, but He who has now the keys of death and of hades hath set before us salvation (Rev. 1:18) “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
The Open Door of Salvation is open.According to (Jh.10:9) Jesus is the door to salvation “I am the Door, by Me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved.” (Jh.10:9).
Jesus is the door to escape from the wrath of God, from the guilt and pollution of sin, from the fear of man, and the control of self (1.Jh. 2:2) “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Christ Jesus became the ransom for all men.
He bore away the sin of the world and tasted death for every man.
He is therefore ever ready and willing to restore the penitent sinner to his fellowship.
It is for us, therefore that we may have boldness to enter in by the blood of Jesus (Jh.1:29) “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. “
The open door of instruction is open. The privilege of being taught of God is open for all, (Jh.15:7) “ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
(Ja.1:5) tells us “If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, and it shall be given him.” the door into the Divine gathering chamber is now open through the Name of Jesus, (Jh.14:14) “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”
He can not only open to you the Scriptures, but also anoint your eyes with such an eye-salve as shall make you see wonderful things in His Holy Word (Rev.3:18 “ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be. rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”
Let us anoint our eyes with eye-salve that we might see. The idea is, that the grace of the gospel enables men who were before blind to see clearly the character of God, the beauty of the way of salvation and the beauty of the person and work of Christ Jesus.
Let us examine ourselves by the rule of his word, and seek for the teaching of the Spirit of God to purge away our pride, prejudices, sin and worldly lusts; that we might see the nature and preciousness of the Lord’s salvation, and value it in a more desirable manner.
The Open Door of Prayer is now open for all mankind. Many have won great victories by prayer (1Ki.18:37,38) “ Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.’
The same door by which many entered into the fullness of blessing is open for us. “If ye ask anything in My Name.” Moses, Elijah, David, Daniel, Paul, and hosts of other mighty ones, owed everything to this open door.
Who can tell all the profit you shall have if youpray unto Him? (Ex. 5:2) “And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.” Remember this, God always gives warning before he strikes.
Vengeance is the Lord’s strange work; but when rebuke is vain, then he draws the sword of anger.
The judgment is heavy. All the water turned into blood, their fish destroyed, their land threatened thus with death, and themselves to die with thirst.
The waters of the Nile were the cause of Egypt’s fruitfulness, but now they are its plague; so easily can God turn our comforts into curses.
They had stained its streams with the blood of Hebrew children, and now they shall in return have blood to drink.
Thus God will repay in kind; and this is done openly for their greater conviction. Truth never needs nor seeks the unseeable.
The Open Door of Fellowship is always open. This is another glorious privilege that is open to all saints. “If ye draw nigh unto Me, I will draw nigh unto you” (Ja. 4.8).
This declaration contains a great and important principle in our salvation. If we wish the favour of God, we must come to him; nor can we hope for his mercy, unless we approach him and ask him for it.
We cannot come literally any nearer to God than we always are, for he is always round about us; but we may come nearer in a spiritual sense.
We may address him directly in prayer; we may approach him by meditation on his character; we may draw near to him in the ordinances of religion.
We can never hope for his favour while we prefer to remain at a distance from him, none who in fact draw near to him will find him unwilling to bestow on them the blessings which they need.
The Lord needs no very urgent constraint to come and abide with us.
The deepest yearning of His loving heart is that we should “abide” in Him.
His difficulty with us is our closed door against Him. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”
There is an open door of power. Undoubtedly some have more spiritual power than others. How? Have they got into special favour with God through some hidden private door?
Did not Jesus declare that “All power is given unto Me, go ye herefore” (Mt.28: 18,19). Go ye therefore to Him and for Him. “He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increaseth strength” (Isa. 40. 29).
He hath set this open door before you. Wait upon Him, and ye shall receive strength (II. Co. 4:8 ) “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.”
The door of heaven is open, “1 go to prepare a place for you.”(Jh.14:3) Those who arc Christ’s have no fear of ever getting this door closed against them.
He has opened it, and no man shutteth it according to the book of Revelation.
Let us be faithful now, taking full advantage of the privileges offered us, that so and abundant entrance shall be ministered unto us on that day, when we come to enter through this gate.
Beware of acting the part of the foolish virgins who were outside when the door was shut, (Re. 22:14) tells us “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
In closeing let me say this, “Blessed are they that do his commandments” They are happy who are obedient that they may have right to the tree of life.
That they have assurance over the tree of life; an authorization founded on right, this right founded on obedience to the commandments of God, and that obedience produced by the grace of God working in them.
Without grace no obedience, without obedience no assurance to the tree of life, without assurance no right, without right no enjoyment. God’s grace through Christ produces the good, and then rewards it as if all had been our own
