We know and understand that the mercy and grace of God does not run in the blood, so the way of Cain is spoken of as opposed to the way of God.
The broad and the narrow way may be seen as the way of Cain or the way of Christ, (Isa.44:8) tell us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord .”
The Way of Cain is Simply Human Judgment. He offered the firstfruits, the best that he had, as an atonement for his soul. May I say from the Word of God,” “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Isa.64:6). Our righteousnesses is as filthy rages.
Same people may says that when a man has done the best he can, what more can he do ? He can obey the scripture as the people did in (Ac.19) “And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” (Ac.19:1,2).
The best thing we can do is to go God’s way. Cain refused to come to God as a sinner. Let us also note (Ac.19:3,6) :And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”
By faith Abel offered unto God a more unimpeachable sacrifice. The Lord desires our whole heart according to (Deut. 10:12),“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,”
Cain’s way was willful ignorance of the way of the Lord. Cain must have known, from the fact that he was born outside of Eden, and from the example of his father and mother, that he was a sinner in the sight of God. We all were born out side of the kingdom of God, we all were willful sinner before we came to the Lord. “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. ” (Ps,51:5).
The very coats of skin given to Adam and Eve by God revealed the need of an atonement to cover, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” (Gen.3:21). We are all naked before the eyes of the Lord.
Cain, like many today, are willingly ignorant of God. God cannot accept our thanks offering as long as we refuse to acknowledge His sin offering, note what (Jh,1:29) tell us “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Jesus Christ is the only offering acceptable before the Lord. He is the propitiation for sin, (I.Jh.2:2).
Jesus our Lord is the only door into our salvation, “Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.” (Jh.10:7).
Cain’s Way is the way of everlasting Rejection? “Unto Cain and his offering God had not respect” according to (Gen.4: 5).
The spirit of Cain was unacceptable, as well as his offering. God had know respect for Cain’s work.
Let us remember, the offering, and the offerer, must always stand or fall together.
We are accepted in the beloved, by one offering He hath perfected them that are set apart. Jesus says, “I am the Way, no man can come unto the Father but by Me.”
According to (Gen.4:5),” Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell,” Although he knew that the way he came to God was of his own choosing, and displeasing to God, there is no desire for repentance, no willingness to confess his sin and forsake his way.
The scripture tells us, “if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Ac.10:9).
Abel had found his sin offering at his door among the flock, (Gen.4:4).
A sin offering also lay at the door of Cain, waiting his reception and ready for his use, but he would not.
The preaching of Christ, and Him crucified, is the laying of the God-appointed sin offering at the door of every sinner who hears the Gospel. Note the words of Jesus in (Jh.10:9) “ I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
Salvation can only be found in Jesus Christ our Lord, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Ac.4:12).
Cain’s way is the evidence of opened Hatred toward mankind, “Cain talked with his brother Abel, and slew him, ” because his own works were evil and his brother’s righteous, according to the book of James “when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (Jas.1:15).
The quarrel between good and evil is an old story. The apostle Paul declared “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.” (Rom.7:19).
To reject Jesus the sin offering is to take the place of a murderer, “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” (I.Jh.3:15).
The first murder was committed by a man who denied the doctrine of substitution and the need of atonement. It was Judas Iscariot who sold his soul out for thirty pieces of silver.
The Way of Cain’s is the way of Divine Condemnation. To Cain the Lord stated, “Now art thou cursed” (Gen.4:11) “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (Jh.3:18).
Where can a person hide who has fled from the only refuge under Heaven? Jesus stated in (Mt,11: 28,30) “ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
The guilt of the unforgiven cries unto God like the blood of Abel, “ And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.” (Gen.4:10).
Sin always cries unto God for vengeance, but Christ our sin offering answered this terrible cry by the sacrifice of Himself according to (1.Pt.2:24) “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
The Way of Cain will always be the path of despair. Cain said, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.” (Gen.4:13)“ “And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord” (v.16).
According to (II.Thess 1:9) Hell is the termination from the presence of the Lord, “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” (I.Thes. 1:7,8,9).
Hell is a perpetual banishment from the fountain of grace and mercy.
Those that depart from God cannot find rest on the earth, the only rest that can be found is in Jesus Christ.
After Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, he never rested “And now art thou cursed from the earth, “When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth” Gen.4:11,12).
Those that shut themselves out of heaven cast aside themselves to a perpetual trembling, “And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” (Ac.9:6).
May I say that repentant will lead us in to obeying the Word of God.
Allow me to say this as well, good men and bad men may bear the same names, but God can distinguish between Judas Iscariot and Judas not Iscariot, (Jh.14: 22).
Jesus knows whose names is written in the book of life, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev.20:12,15).
This is the choice of sinners; and so shall their doom be, to their eternal confusion.
All who rejects Jesus our Lord are doomed to go out for ever from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, “He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.” (Jh.13:30).
Cain’s guilt began by taking his own way, and it was provoked by refusing to repent after light and guidance had been given. Yes, Cain refuse to repent of his error, “ And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.” (Gen.4:13).(10.) Cain is now confirmed in his unbelief and sealed in his doom. “Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain” (Isa.1.18).
