Isaiah, A man of God

Isaiah 1:1,18
Israel had fallen into degraded times and just as Moses was born in the time of national darkness and despair (Acts 7:19, 20), so did the “Vision” come to Isaiah, the Son of Amos (v.1).

God has His own time and way of unveiling human guilt, and Divine mercy,“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.” (I.Thes.2:7). The lord’s time of judgment will come. To day is a time of grace.

The people as a whole were guilty great of sin. They are charged with rebellion.“I have nourished and brought up sons and they have rebelled against Me.” Note what the Lord said to Saul in (I.Sam.15:23), “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.“

He nourished them and brought them up out of Egypt, and through the wilderness, into a land of privilege and plenty. Yet they rebelled against Him.

Have we not also, as a people, been nourished and brought up in a land of Gospel light and privilege ? We can thank our God for being born in the United State of America.

There was much inconsideration in there life. “My people doth not consider.” They became more thoughtless and thankless toward their Owner and provider than the ox, or the ass.

When we cease to regard the work of the Lord, and to consider the operations of His hands in our behalf, we have already entered the path of the backslider “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:” (Prov.14:14).

They had become a offensive people “They have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel” (v.4).

Their thoughtlessness has resulted in a willful and deliberate break from the Living God.

When the backslider has determined to have his own will and way there will be a breaking of the Lord’s bands, and a casting away of His cords according to (Psa. 2:3).

Note their perverseness in there life. “Why should ye be stricken?…ye will revolt more and more” (v.5). God could not deal with them as sons in chastisement. So far gone were they that they would not “endure” it, but only harden their neck in more bitter revolt, “If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?” (Heb. 12:7).

It is deplorable in the extreme when God has to say, “In vain have I smitten your children: they receive no correction” (Jer. 2: 30).

They were a people of dreadful corruption, “Whole head sick.. . whole heart faint …no soundness…putrifying sores,” (v5, 6).

This sickness, and faintness, these wounds, and sores, can never be healed, bound up, and mollified, apart from Him whom they have despised and rejected.” It was David that said to the Lord “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Ps.51:10).

Immorality is the result of being separated from the Source of Life, the Living One. To forsake the Lord is to prefer corruption and death to health and life “ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men”. (Matt. 5:13).

God is Merciful and will seek out mankind “Come now let us reason together, saith the Lord,” He does not reason with the brute creation.

How gracious God’s call is. He could have driven out the whole nation from his presence as he drove out the man from the garden, note (Rom.5:20) For where sin did abound grace hath much more abounded”

God gave the people a wonderful promise. “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” It has been said that “any man can dye his soul with sin, but only God can bleach it.

God’s power is in and behind His promise to turn the scarlet-dyed clothes of a harlot-soul into the white robes of a blood-washed saint. “Come now,“Neither the number nor the depths of our sins need be any interference, salvation is of the Lord. “The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin” (1.Jh.1:7). A

A warning comes from God to the people. “But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword” (v. 20). Yes, this is the Divine ultimatum. If we refuse, and rebel against God’s free offer of mercy and forgiveness, if we will not yield to the Divine calling, then our end is eternal termination. The lake of fire.

God is merciful, but God cannot and will not lie according to (Titus 1:2) “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” The Lord will keep his word.

If His promises are despised, His judgments will not slumber. Come now, for behold now is the day of salvation
