God, our guide

Psalms 32:8

The place of guidance, what a need. Unless we are able to see God’s eye we cannot be guided “Mine eyes are ever towards the Lord: for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.” (Ps.25:15).

What could hinders our view? Our sins. “For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.” (Ps.32:12).

The great thing therefore, is to confess our sins,”For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Ro.10:13).

Once our sin is removed and they are put away, we will hear Jesus say” Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.” (Jh.8:11).

Let us speak about the manner of guidance. By his Authority, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”  (Mt.28:18).

He is our master and we are his servant “Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.” (Ps.123:2).

Jesus guides us by his Kindness. He is more loving and gentle than a mother, “For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.” (Jer.24:6).

Our Lord is sure and we may trust him.

Moses knew the desert well, but he might err, Moses needed the eyes of Hobab “And he said, leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.” (Num.10:31).

He was glad, therefore of the help of Hobab. How much more surely may we depend upon God in our wilderness journey. We are the apple of his eye.(Isa.49:10) Declares “They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.”

Happy we are when the Lord is our guide.

What peace we have in Christ. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (Jh.14:27).

We cannot guide ourselves nor can we trust others, even the wisest and the best to guide us, but when we put ourselves under the care an direction of God, we fell that all is well “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”(Jer.10:23) and Ps.119:165) tells us, “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”

What Freedom we have in Jesus. God does not take pleasure in the bit and bridle. He would have us be guided through our reason and heart rather than by restraint and force, “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes,” Deut.10:12,13).

He works in us both “to will and to do” He makes us free by truth, that or services may not be from fear, but love “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (Jh.8:31,32).

The Lord will cause us to become Courageous. God’s eye upon us is an inspiration. “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.” (II.Chro.20:12,13)

Gideon felt a new man when the Lord looked upon him “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” (Judg.6:12).

The apostle Paul had a heart fate when Christ stood by him in the storm “And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,” (Ac.27;23).

Stephen went to a cruel death with love and joy under the eye of his Master ” But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” (Ac.7:56,60).

What Hope we have in our Lord. In humble, trustful self-surrender and love, we are safe for time and for eternity, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (II.Cor. 5:1).
