There is a great need in these day to clearly understand who Jesus is, so many have no ideal about who he is, and to same, it does not matter to them at all. The apostle Paul made this statment to Timothy II Tim. 2:15 “…Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be a ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” As we have made it very clear that there is only one God, yet there are many manifestions of this one Deity, are Supreme being.
There is only one Almighty God to be found in the scripture. It matters not where you look, be it the Old Testament are the New Testament, both books only reveal one God. All the writers ,such as Moses, David, and Isaiah spoke of one God in the Old Testament. The writers of the New Testament spoke of only one Almightly God, wirters such as Matthew, John, Paul and the apostle Peter. II Cor. 6:18 “... And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons, and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” The Almighty of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament, His name is Jesus. The term Almighty applies to God as the sufficint one, are all powerful one. We know the Farher, which is the God who created all things. Gen. 1:1 “…In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. “ Not only did God create all things, but has had the power to keep all things in place. From the beginning of earth’s creattion. God has seen that the earth has had water, air and all the food that his creator needed.
The first time the word Almighty appears in the scripuere is in the book of Geneis. Gen. 17:1 “… And when Abram was ninity years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” What the Lord was saying to Abram was that he was Bountiful, and would see to all of Abram’s needs The same God that promised to supply the patriarch’s needs and see him throught every obstacle is the same God that cared for the disciples in the books of the gospels. It was God in Christ who feed the disciples and the five thousand that hot day along life’s way, yes it was the Almighty of the Old Testament feeding the people throught Jesus Christ. Luke 9:16 “...Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude,” Jesus was not a second god feeding these people, It was the Almighty using the body as a tool to do his mighty deeds. The Lord our God is one Lord. Deut.6:4
Job of the Old Testament spoke of the Lord as being the Almighty same thirty one times. Job 24:1 “… “Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days.” Job is allowing us to know that the Almighty sees the beginning and ending of every persons life. The Lord knows the deeds of every person that has enter the world, if they are evil are good, he knows the day of judgment for the wicked. There is nothing hid from the Lord’s eye, he is the Almighty God. Jesus proved himself to be the Almighty while he was on earth. He new the purpose of his coming to earth, he also new the time of his death, he new he would be raised from the grave, and would ascend into heaven, he also made it clear that he would return to earth in the future. Jesus could read the minds of men and see the spiritual condition of there heart. Jesus new that Judas would betray him . Matt. 26:21 “… verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me …Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he, hold him fast.” (v.48) The apostle Paul spoke of Jesus Christ as being the Almighty. He remember the words of the Lord in Matt.28:18 “…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth..”The term Almighty is used more than sixty times in the scripture and it refers to only one Sovereign, The apostle Paul new this when he made this statement about our Lord in Eph. 1:19 “...And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe to the working of his mighty power. “ The apostle Paul new that there was only one Almighty God, for he had met him on the Damascus road. Paul new the Almighty God’s name as it was revealed to him In Acts 9:5 “...And he said , Who art thou, Lord ? And the Lord said, I am JESUS whom thou persecutest.” Knowing who Jesus was, he has encourages us to be strong in the Lord .”…Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Eph. 6:10. It was Solomon who said in Prov.18:10 “...The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”
One of the most outstanding prophets of the Old Testament forecast the coming of the Almighty God in the flesh, it was Isaiah. God did not reveal the year are mouth that he would enter the world , he just made it clear that he would come. Another thing that is very clear is that he would come as the Son of God. The Son was not another god, he was the visible manifest ion of the Almighty invisible God. Isa.9:6″... For unto us a child is born, unto us a SON is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”. This Son is the Lord Jesus Christ who was born in the city of Bethlehem of Judea.. Jesus was the mighty God walking in the misted of men.
David, one of the greatest writers of the Old Testament was a man that was after the very heart of God. The Lord blessed him with a wonderful insight in to the the very being of Almighty God.There is no doubt that David new his God was an all sufficient God. He encourage us to put our trust in him. Psa. 90:1 “…He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” David had seem how the Lord had protected him through out his life time. The Lord protect him from the giant, the bear and Saul. In the New Testament we see the Almighty manifest ion himself in the person of the Son of God, the mighty God in Christ. Jesus made the claim that he was the Almighty God and he and the Father was one, not to individual God’s, are separate powers, but one Almighty authority. Rev.1:8 “…I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is,and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. ” How much more clearer can this be ? Truly Jesus could say. “…Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ” Matt. 11:28 ” Jesus is our Lord and God as Philip stated in the book of St. John. Jesus is our rest to day, let us abide under the shadow of our Almighty saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord.
