Treasures of our heart

Job 22;22                                                                                                                                                God’s words are regard as heart treasures, to be received with eagerness and to laid up with care in our heart While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.” (Ac.10:44)

Job seems to refer to the word as law or instructions “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (II.Tim.3:16)

There is a larger law than of Moses, a wider teaching than that of the Old Testament. Jesus came to fulfill the law “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:” (Mt.28:20)

God’s words in nature, in Scripture, in conscience, and Jesus Christ our Lord are treasures to be receive and guarded in the heart.

The nature of these treasures. They are truth, they are Law and instruction full of words and life. These treasures are not material things “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Mt.24:35)

Gold and jewels are not the most precious things ‘A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.” (Prov22:1)

Good thoughts are worth more than diamonds “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer.29:11)

God’s words are of the greatest value on several accounts.

First, their truth. All truth is precious, Divine truth, truth about God and spiritual things, is of great value. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Num.23:19)

Secondly, The bearing on life. They throw light on duty “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (II.Tim2:3)

The Word show us the way of salvation. “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem… “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Ac.2:39)

The Source of these treasures. The Lord is the original Source. God made the Law, He originates the commandment, he conveys the instruction, he teaches the truth.

God revelation is the original source of all truth, for we can only know nature in so far as God reveal it to us through its phenomena and by means of the faculties he has given to us. Jesus Christ is the revelation of God “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jh:14:6) And John declared in (Rev.1:18) “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come the Almighty.”

The Lord is the immediate Source. We can only receive the truth of God when the Spirit of God brings it home to us. Truth comes from God to each individual “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (Jh.14:26)The

Our reception of the treasures. We must understand they are not in us by nature. (Ps.51:3) tells us “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”

It may be said they are with us in our unspoiled state of nature, we lost them through sin, and we need to recover them “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart:” (Jer,1:16)

The Word of the Lord must be received willingly by us. We can keep them out, therefore we are urged to open the door and let them in “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Rev.3:20)

Some of the greatest revelation fails before unwilling ears “Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him:” (Ac.7:57)

The preservation of the treasures are to be laid up with in our heart.

God does not favor us with a flash of revelation for the use or the enjoyment of a moment “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;” (Mt.28:6,7)

The truth is given for a permanent good “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Ac.2:39)

The Word is to be in our heart. The thought of it is useless unless we hear it and comprehend it and consider it.The memory. The boarded memories of the heart are for use in after-years.

The affections. We need to love God’s truth and make it a port of our very being by embracing it in our deepest affection “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:” (Deut.6:4)

The use of the treasures are not to be buried in forgetfulness, nor are they kept only for show, like the Crown jewels in a safe box.

In the heat they are at the source of the life, and they are to inspire and influence the whole man “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Ps.119:105)

God’s law is to be written on the fleshy tablets of the heart, that there it may live and rule our life ” Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.” (II.Cor.3:3)
